The Erick Hawkins Dance Intensive will give an in depth approach to many of Hawkins’ core principles developing each dancer’s understanding and use of technique and how it applies to their own body. A two-hour technique class will pinpoint technique through floor and center work and then utilize these technical breakthroughs moving across the floor. These movement combinations will then be further employed by students in the choreographic process using Hawkins’ and his resident composer Lucia Dlugoszewski’s composition principles focusing on time, dynamics, space and music as well as aesthetics of design including sets and costumes. A new structure will be created and rehearsed at performance level culminating in a final presentation with the Motion Theatre Dance Company and Erick Hawkins Dance Company.
